Milestones..

i always find it interesting when they list baby development milestones in books with a space for you to write in the date when they have been reached.. i think with a lot of the milestones, it is hard to come up with a concrete date - things like, first smile - how do you know that they are really smiling and not just passing wind? first word.. does baa baa count? when does a sound become a word rather that just babbling? some of the milestones are easier to tick off though - things like rolling over and cutting first teeth are much easier to pin a date to..

and speaking of cutting first teeth, lachlan cut his first tooth last friday. it still isn't protruding up from his gum, but it has definitely cut through - you can see a clear-ish line where it is and it is very very sharp - sort of feels like a glass splinter when you run your finger over it - or when he bites on your finger! interesting times ahead!

Kim Scullen - Super Shopper

i have to tell you my bargain shopper story..

a couple of weekends ago, we went to target at carindale to pick up a play mat that i had gotten a raincheck for. as we wandered through the children's section, i noticed that they had a sign hanging above some high chairs saying "were $69.95 now $30". i went to investigate because we were considering getting a second one to leave at my mum's so feeding lachlan was easier when i was over there. when we got closer, i noticed that all the boxes for the high chairs had price stickers on them saying they were reduced from $99.95 to $69.95 - not $30 as the sign said. we worked out that the sign was probably supposed to read "now $69.95 save $30". i asked one of the staff floating around about it and she said the sign was wrong and they were just about to change it, however as we had seen the sign advertising them for $30, they would only charge us $30! so i ended up with a $99.95 high chair for $30 - how cool is that?

Bath time with ducky

bathtime with lachlan these days tends to mean more water on the floor and the person bathing him than left in the baby bath, so we have been trying to find new ways of keeping him entertained and distracted enough so he doesn't kick out all of his bath water. i found out about these inflatable duckies from somewhere and bought one today. it's the same size as his baby bath, and sits inside the big tub so he can kick all he likes and the water doesn't go all over the floor, plus we don't have to waste all that water filling up the big tub and he doesn't get intimidated by being in the big tub when he is still so small. although this is only the first time we have used it, it seems that we're onto a winner judging by the smiles!

Photos that will haunt Lachlan at his 21st..

no doubt he will never forgive me for dressing him in this outfit for julie's birthday party, but i couldn't resist it! i think he looks as cute as a button in this romper.. pity it's already getting too tight to hold his chubby thighs!

The Fisher Price Corner

thanks to lila & mark for lending us blair's toys that he no longer plays with.. when combined with the stuff we already had, we now look like toys r us! john has joked that at this rate, we will need a new room just for all of lachlan's toys.. meanwhile, they never had stuff like this when i was a kid!

oh, and in case you are wondering, this is ONLY the fisher price stuff.. there is also an activity centre, a washing basket worth of stuffed animals and teddy bears and a tupperware bag (same size as the coles green enviro bag) of toys that we take with us when we travel..

Lachlan's first car

some of the photos i took of lachlan playing in his new car that we got from huggies (one of those collect the barcodes and send them in promos). his favourite part so far seems to be the steering wheel.. most of the time he has spent in the car has been munching on it!

Here we go again..

well, i've decided that i will try (again) to start up a blog to keep everyone up to date with what is happening with lachlan's growth and development, and also so i can post up some pictures of lachlan for you all to see.. i feel a little embarrassed that everyone else i know has started up blogs and been much more successful at keeping them updated than i was (my last attempt consisted of one post, that was cut short because lachlan woke up and i never got back to it). hopefully things will work out a little better for me this time round.. however, i wouldn't expect to be updating this more than once a week or so..

well, let's see.. what interesting things can i tell you about what's been happening.. hmmmm.. now i remember the other reason i didn't really get into updating my blog last time.. i don't think there has been that much interesting stuff happening? i guess i find it hard to think that my life can be all that enthralling that others would want to read all about it??? maybe i will just stick to the basics and see where that takes us...

as many of you will know, lachlan and i visited griffith on thursday for brett's farewell party, and did the rounds of the willett centre lvl 0 afterwards to say hello to everyone.. sorry if we missed seeing you, but it seems that doing the rounds with a baby in tow can actually take up the whole afternoon if you let it, and i wanted to get forementioned baby home for a feed and nap so had to cut the visit short.. lachlan was spectacularly well behaved for the visit - probably because he wanted everyone to think i was lying when they asked me if he was a good baby and i said no. to tell you the truth, he is a wonderful baby, but he is very high maintenance.

he loves being held and cuddled and spends most of the day letting me know that he would prefer that than being on the floor playing.. he is also going through a stranger danger phase where he has decided that as a general rule, he will not let anyone hold him except his parents, and occasionally his grandparents, although he makes some exceptions (just to prove me wrong, i'm sure).

he turned 7 months old on saturday - it's amazing how quickly the time has passed.. something to do with all the lack of sleep i'm sure. i weighed him at my mum's local chemist the day before and discovered that according to their scales, he is now a whopping 8.8 kgs. he is getting much better at sitting on his own, and doesn't unbalance as often as he used to.. he has also worked out how to roll from his tummy to his back.. he was never really fond of tummy time, so his new trick has been good in that he no longer screams when you roll him onto his tummy, because he knows he can roll back whenever he feels like it, but bad because he seems to feel like it almost straight away, and is therefore not spending any time on his tummy, which he needs to do if he is going to learn to crawl at some point. i have a vague suspicion that he is happy enough to just lay there for now and make me do all the hard work when he wants to more around..

anyway, that's enough for now.. i'll post up some photos when i get the chance, but for those who haven't seen the other ones i've uploaded to kodak gallery, you can check them out here - http://www.kodakgallery.com/i.jsp?c=e86jo0x.9tgtfz1&x=0&y=-bakplj
